INTENTIONAL CUTAWAY TRAINING
The Canopy Piloting School offers intentional cutaway training for those who have never had a cutaway before or want additional training.
Students are briefed on the ground with all the gear. A special "cutaway" harness is used which goes on before (underneath) your normal skydiving harness. The cutaway harness is connected to a single pair of risers with a single cutaway handle and the parachute is packed in a deployment bag.
The deployment bag is held out the aircraft door by the instructor who direct bags you on exit. The student simply jumps out holding the risers for the deployment..
The student flys the parachute to a predetermined altitude (above 5,000ft) and cuts away using the extra handle on the cutaway harness. The student goes back into freefall and deploys the main parachute of the main container system. In the unlikely event the student has a malfunction of their main parachute then the reserve parachute is deployed.
Students making intentional cutaways leave the aircraft with three parachutes including the "cutaway" parachute, the "main" parachute and their "reserve".
